With the official start of summer this month, it’s understandable that many would want to go out to enjoy the great weather and the outdoors. For those that want an excuse to escape the heat, or have a bunch of free time, you can elect to waste it all with some good ol fashioned fun playing video games. The stay-at-home policies everywhere, gaming has recently had a small surge in popularity with many people spending more time at home. The Nintendo Switch especially has been a very popular platform with the release of popular titles such as the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which has gone on to be the top selling Switch game of all time. Summer has also been a popular time for developers to announce annual summer sales of popular games, like Nintendo’s recent sale of switch games, and of course the ever popular Steam summer sales that come and go. It is also a popular time for many gaming expos to announce new upcoming titles for the coming years. Unfortunately, the well-known E3 gaming expo has been cancelled due to COVID so many developers are instead doing independent broadcasts announcing their own upcoming titles. IGN, a popular gaming website, is even going its own IGN Expowhich is an E3-like format of announcements and behind the scenes features that many fans have come to expect. With many titles to look forward to, and many still available on sale, it’s probably never been a better time to indulge in a little puzzle solving or teamwork with friends in online multiplayer. And, its social distancing friendly!
